One of my favorite books as a young person was Jonathan Livingston Seagull. For some reason, it resonated with me. Foreshadowing? I understood at some level it was a book of metaphors, rising beyond the struggles, but I was unable to understand it completely at that time.
Decades later, I hit my own liquid wall... and like the bird, near death, I had to Fly or Die. Also like the bird, that first step towards the light, and enlightenment was an awakening, a start of a new journey. There was so much more to learn, and so much to unlearn. So many norms that had been drilled into my brain, that I had to undo.
Similar influence came in the form of a little green guy. The Yoda character created by George Lucas in general terms was grounded in Buddhist teachings and now we understand quantum physics better, also grounded in good science.
"Luminous Brings we are" said Yoda. Yes, fundamentally we are all blobs of three simple Particles (Protons, Neutrons and Electrons), assembled in various ways. Had I paid more attention in Chemistry to that Periodic Table of Elements... I would have known this. I will blame young male ego and raging hormones.
