The a pandemic hits. One would hope that would be a sobering moment, a time to reflect on personal health and make sure IF you got infected, you had the best fighting chance. The hope would be to minimize the fatty foods, cut back on the self-medicating and Covid may just be the rallying cry for making permanent life changes... for the better. So far, not so much. The reality is the opposite. The restaurants quickly switched to take home everything, including the medications. People are drinking a lot MORE now, because they can't go anywhere, so no need to worry about DUI - the largest fear to self-medicating and driving.
Work from home... is also kids home from school, and parents are having to deal with entertaining and monitoring kids, while trying to be productive, while trying to figure out what is going on and where all this is heading. One of the most stressed states, New York, did a study that found about 38% of the people were "Drinking on the job" because of all this stress.
People are simply doing what they have been told to do, through years of conditioning. The "Make me feel good Medicine" habits of good times, because more important during bad times. The pandemic is accelerating the process, highlighting habits that we have. Do we want to change? UNDERSTANDING IT ALL Why so much self-medicating now, so fast? It's quite simple. We are constantly being marketed to drink alcohol We see literally millions of positive impressions related to self-medicating with Beer, Wine and Cocktails... so that programs your mind, past all logic, to say... IF feel bad or stressed = THEN Self Medicate with alcohol. It's that simple... you're being duped to drug, and the chemistry is addictive (dopamine inducer). We also want to be with others who have the same addictions, a group self-medicating club of sorts. When the bars started to re-open... we ripped the masks off and started chugging in groups... and now that is a large part of the Covid Relapse we are experiencing this 4th of July. ELIMINATE BAD HABITS WITHOUT "Quitting" or "Stopping" IF YOU WANT change... and this only works if you want it... the start to the right path is pretty simple. First, give your brain a rest... LESS IS MORE when it comes to mental stimulation (TV, Gaming, Videos etc). Unplug a LOT... cut back to maybe an hour a day total. If you use your phone, call someone. Human interaction is organic stress relief. Second, exercise more. The chemistry around that is amazing for mind and body. Start slow, simple, but most important be disciplined. DO IT CONSISTENTLY - Train your mind to say we MUST do this! Your mind WILL try to talk you out of that change... don't let it. Doe these (2) things - Most people will find... you don't have to "Stop" or "Quit" bad habits, they will start to stop themselves. The more relaxed, better rested your mind is, and the stronger your body becomes, the less you will desire mental medications, because you are healthier. Just like a cold, when you feel better, you don't need the medicine anymore. Certainly, if your problems are more serious, seek professional help, my was and I did. AN AMAZING MINDSET As the founder of Sober World, this Pandemic has had little effect on me personally. I wake every day happy, I certainty have a few more concerns and observations and catch the new more often, but I also engage in more quality time, intentionally get out and do more positive projects and reach out more. There are SO MANY positive things you can be a help with, so many people are struggling. I choose to help others, and I feel the rewards ten-fold in doing so. My simple advise for all during this, is "Just be the best You"... be solid and strong in your life, inspire with action. Stay Healthy! Masks work! Peter Faulk Founder #soberworldorg
