Fact is, currently over 3 million people a year die from Alcohol use and abuse globally. That just can't be a good message for marketing to work with. Picture the old McDonald's Sign... with "Over 3 Million Served" reading instead "Over 3 Million Killed". Not Good advertising. The "Spirits Business" would plummet if there was true honesty in their product harm.
"Drink Responsibly" is another great marketing concept. However, it fails the Logic Test. As a species, we have not evolved fast enough to manage ingesting all the C2H6O, Ethanol a Rocket Fuel, that we do in various forms (beer, wine, bourbon... all the same). The Ethanol to our anatomy is still cancerous, a mental depressant, a harmful brain neurotoxin, and of course addictive, physically (dopamine inducing) and emotionally (social desires). It's 100% not good for our evolution, Drink Water - it's what we are made of!
HOW exactly does one "Drink Responsibly" a diluted rocket fuel, that causes self harm?
That "Drink Responsibly" campaign is brilliant psychology. It infers that somehow you are in control of your own self harm, that you are empowered to hurt yourself, it is your right to self-medicate - you've earned it dammit! Give me my beer - my wine! Let me medicate my stressed out Brain in Peace please! Brilliant Marketing. Well done!
EVOLUTION - So stop and think... for 40,000 years - we have had No TV, No Apps, No Internet, No Email, No 300 Channels of Car Radio, No 400 TV Stations, No Millions of You Tube and Thousands of Movies, No Txt, Pings, no Video Games. ALL that came about in the past 50 years.... and it's stressing our Brains and Killing us.
Our Society has evolved faster than our brains... and it's indirectly killing us!
Life Expectancy is falling in the USA and elsewhere and Suicides are more prevalent.
The fast evolving technology is not only causing more suicides, self medicating and physical harm, it is also causing emotional, societal and financial harms. We identify a lot of the costs that drag our society down. We are PAYING to HARM OURSELVES.
Evolution - if you think about it, Darwinism is HYPER-FAST at work thanks to Brain Stimulation and Alcohol. We are culling the Herd of very mentally active - sensitive brain people, who are now over-stressed by technology and self-medicating to death. Left over, our numbers will migrate towards a less sensitive, less creative more mind numbing compatible culture... 3 million people a year. That is fast evolution! Think of all the brilliant too young dead young musicians and artists with no kids. That is Darwinism at work.
So Yes - Drinks Industry - Please work to keep us alive for more longer term sales. Certainly a person who gets cancer from alcohol 20 years from now, is a better long term customer than a flash out binge drinker who is dead in a month. Anything the "Industry" can do to help reduce "Self-Medicating" our Brains from excess is welcome!
